As we are on this 30 day journey, it is my hope that we will learn to put God first in our lives. When people have 30 days to live, most turn to God…even those that are mad at Him, even those that haven’t talked to Him in years. It doesn’t matter where you are on your journey with God skeptic or a pastor, we can all grow closer to Him by putting Him first over the next 30 days.
A simple way to do that is to give God the first portion of everything. Here’s some practical ways to do that:
Give God the First Day of the Week
Long ago Christians decided to gather together on the day the Lord rose from the dead (Sunday) and celebrate. They also were applying the ‘first fruits’ principle when they set aside the first day of the week for God.
Give God the first day of your week by setting aside Sunday as ‘His day’. Attend the church of your choice, spend sometime praying or reading, and just think more about Him on Sunday than you normally do.
Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near. – Hebrews 10:24-25
Give God the First Part of Every Day
I know we’re all busy and rushed in the morning. I know that many of us are not morning people. If we will give God the first 15 minutes of our day, He will make the rest of the day go smoother.
If you read 15 minutes a day you can read through the whole New Testament in less than a year. I would suggest reading 10 minutes and praying 5 to start. This should be doable for anyone. 15 minutes a day, such a wonderfully small sacrifice to understand the love of the Father and the freedom He has given us.
By asking God what His will is the various parts of our lives we involve Him in our day-to-day lives. If He’s involved, then we have His wisdom, His presence and His blessing.
Remember, Give God…
- The First Day of Every Week
- The First Part of Every Day
And you will find your life is more fulfilling, more effective and more meaningful. In short, you be living more like you’re dying.
